The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) oversees educator licensing through its Office of Educator Licensing. All licensing activities are managed via the Licensing Verification and Information System (LVIS360), the state’s official portal for educator credentialing.

License Renewal & Additions

Educators can renew or add endorsements to their licenses through the LVIS360 Portal. Requirements may include additional coursework, professional development hours, or passing new assessments, depending on the specific endorsement or renewal criteria.

Workplace Specialist I (WSI) – Initial Two-Year License

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Minimum Education: High school diploma.
  • Age: At least 21 years old.
  • Employment: Must be employed or have a job offer from an accredited CTE program or the Indiana Department of Correction.
  • Occupational Experience:
    • 5,000 hours of experience in the past 5 years, or 4,000 hours in the past 10 years, plus one of the following:
    • Passing an occupational competency test.
    • Holding a relevant occupational license or certification.
    • Completion of an accredited 2-year or higher degree in the certification area.
    • Completion of an apprenticeship or internship program.

Application Process:

1. Create an account on the LVIS360 Portal.

2. Submit required documents:

    • Valid CPR certification from an IDOE-approved provider.
    • Proof of suicide prevention training.
    • Verification of occupational experience (e.g., employer letters on company letterhead detailing job titles, duties, hours worked, and dates of employment)

Training Requirements:

Workplace Specialist I Teacher Training: Must be completed during the first year of licensure. Registration typically opens mid-June through early August via workplacespecialists.com.

Mentorship: A mentor, appointed by the CTE director, will guide the WSI teacher. The mentor should be a practicing educator with at least five years of teaching experience and work in the same building as the teacher. https://www.in.gov/doe/educators/educator-licensing/workplace-specialist

Testing Requirements:

TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education): Must achieve proficient scores in Reading (536+), Mathematics (537+), and Language (547+). Professional Development Plan (PDP):

Workplace Specialist II (WSII) – Five-Year Renewable License

Conversion Requirements:

  • Successful completion of:
    • Workplace Specialist I Teacher Training.
    • TABE exams or approved university coursework.
    • Professional Development Plan (PDP).
  • Valid CPR certification and suicide prevention training.

Application for conversion submitted through the LVIS360 Portal.

Renewal:

The WSII license is renewable every five years upon completion of an updated PDP and other renewal requirements.
