Career Planning

Life is a journey! It helps to have planned the trip. Every Area 18 high school freshman begins his high school experience with the "Preparing for College and Career" course. Personal interests, aptitudes, and desires are identified and aligned with potential careers. Career and Education Pathway Plans are created and reviewed annually.

Technical Skills

Northeast Indiana has targeted the high-value economic clusters of Manufacturing, Healthcare Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, Life Sciences, Logistics, Information Technology, Defense, and Alternative Energy as high wage industries. Area 18 CTE is working to provide learning opportunities in each of these High-Wage, High-Demand industries.

Work Ready

In addition to Technical Skills - the most important skills cited by employers are: work ethic / professionalism, oral and written communication, teamwork / collaboration, critical thinking / problem solving, and the application of information technology. Area 18 CTE programs help students to acquire 21st Century workplace skills.

Practical Arts Showcase! --- February 20 to March 14, 2018, at the Arts & Commerce Centre, 211 Water Street, Bluffton, IN. --- Open to the public weekdays 9-4 with OPEN HOUSE Saturday March 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. This inaugural exhibition features students' works and creations from Area 18 CTE programs in precision machine works, weldments, handmade guitars, vex robotics, an automotive engine display, automotive service training aid, 3-D printer creations, cornhole board, and metal fabrications. This exhibition is a collaborative effort between the AWMA and Area 18 CTE Cooperative.

Did you know that February is National Career and Technical Education Month? The theme is “CTE: Careers Through Education.” Consider the advantages and potential of successful CTE Career Pathway completion and consider creating a display for the entire school to see.

RecentEvents

480 eighth graders were introduced to CTE courses at Huntington North High School on Jan. 14 and 15 during an orientation program organized by Steve Schenkel, adult education coordinator. Students visited and spoke with teacher and student representatives from EMT, Health, Auto Service and Precision Machining classes.
